Performance and testing requirements for fire pumps
Compared with domestic water pumps and production water pumps, fire pumps should have higher performance requirements. However, the current regulations in China do not provide detailed special provisions for the performance and testing requirements of fire pumps, resulting in a lack of evidence and various problems in the selection of fire pumps. The performance requirements of the US NFPA20 for fire pumps are: the maximum flow rate of the fire pump should be 150% of the design value, the head should not be less than 65% of the selected working point head, the head when the pump is turned off should not be greater than 140% of the selected working point head, the flow rate of the stabilizing pump should be 1-2L/S, and the head should be 1.1-1.2 times the head of the fire pump. At the same time, it is stipulated that a measuring flow meter should be installed on the outlet pipe of the fire pump, which should be able to test 175% of the selected flow rate of the water pump. A pressure gauge with a diameter greater than 89mm should be installed on the outlet pipe of the fire pump. It is recommended that relevant departments refer to American standards to propose more targeted and clear requirements for the design and selection of fire pumps in China, so as to provide evidence for the selection and testing process of fire pumps.
